Mega Man (Rock Man au Japon) est un jeu de plateforme à défilement latéral. Mega Man a la capacité de sauter et de tirer avec l’arme implantée dans son bras. Il doit traverser les niveaux des six robots et les vaincre au combat. Ce faisant, Mega Man est capable d’acquérir le pouvoir détenu par le robot. Ces pouvoirs peuvent alors être utilisés de manière interchangeable avec son arme principale et cibler les faiblesses spécifiques de ses ennemis.
