Ultraman Ball met en scène le personnage tokusatsu de Tsuburaya Productions, Ultraman, et ses compagnons. Ultraman est réimaginé comme un héros capable de se transformer en mode boule, et utilise ce nouveau pouvoir pour sauver ses amis.
Dans sa forme bipède standard, Ultraman est capable de s’accrocher aux murs et de les escalader en sautant à plusieurs reprises. En mode boule, Ultraman peut renverser les ennemis et prendre de la vitesse sur les pentes pour l’aider à atteindre de nouvelles zones. Il peut également rebondir, ce qui augmente également sa hauteur verticale. En combinant ces pouvoirs, le joueur peut progresser dans chaque étape.
